Alaxandra Palace, commonly referred to as “Ally Pally”, was built in 1873 as one of the Victorian era’s “People’s Palaces”. But within days it had tragically burnt down. Despite being quickly rebuilt, it was soon closed down after failing to make any money.

During the First World War the palace was then used to house thousands of German Prisoners of War. It then became the BBC’s first TV studio, and it is currently an entertainment centre. There is a pub, a garden centre, an exhibition centre and even an ice skating rink.

The palace’s grounds, known as Alexandra Park, are open to the public and include sports facilities, children’s entertainments and a pitch and putt course. There is also boating available on the lake and jazz concerts are held here during the summer months.

The palace and park are situated on the top of Muswell Hill, and so on a clear day you can get fantastic views of the city. Alexandra park and palace are open 24 hours a day.
