England Made Me
All about England
The most famous landmark from Battersea’s industrial era has to be the Battersea Power Station designed by Giles Gilbert Scott. It was built in 1933, originally with one 300ft high chimney at each end.
At a later date, the station was expanded to more than twice its size with four chimneys built - two chimneys at each end. It is this structure, and the four huge chimneys that have dominated the Battersea skyline ever since.
The power station went out of service in 1983. Although entertainment events have occasionally been held here, it has been derelict pretty much ever since. There have been various plans for its future put forward but none of these are certain.
