England Made Me
All about England
Bond Street runs through the heart of Mayfair, from Oxford Street in the north to Piccadilly in the south. The name comes from Sir Thomas Bond who was one of the main businessman in the area in the 17th Century.
Technically it is made up of two distinct streets, New Bond Street in the north and Old Bond Street in the south. However even the ‘new’ end dates from the 18th century and so they are usually referred to as one and the same, as Bond Street.
Along with streets such as Oxford Street and Regent Street, Bond Street is best known for its shopping. As Bond Street is in the very expensive and exclusive district of Mayfair, it follows that the shops are expensive and exclusive too! This is designer territory with outlets including DKNY, Nicole Fahri, Chanel and Gianni Versace.
And aside from fashion there are lots of shops selling art, jewellery and antiques. And this is also where several auction houses, including Sotheby’s and Phillips, are located.
