All about England
Bristol’s Theatre Royal first opened in the 1760s, making it the oldest working theatre in England.
The Theatre Royal can be found on King Street, to the south-east of the city centre. Tours of the theatre take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 12.30pm.
As such, the building is unique and of vital importance – it is now a Grade I Listed Building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Famous names who have performed here over the years include David Garrick, Henry Irving and Peter O’Toole. And the ghost of actress Sarah Siddons is said to haunt the theatre to this day.
