Brockley is the district of south-east London that lies sandwiched between Lewisham and Peckham. The name is believed to be derived from the Saxon meaning “Broca’s Wood”.

For most of its history the district was a rural area whose main industry was agriculture. But like so many parts of south London, things changed dramatically once industrialisation reached the area.

By the end of the 18th century the area had been transformed into sprawling housing estates, mainly catering to white collar workers. Today Brockley remains a residential district.
