England Made Me
All about England
This superb museum can be found on Trumpington Street, on the southern edge of the city centre. It was founded in the mid 19th century by Viscount Fitzwilliam, hence the name.
It is home to an excellent collection of antiquities with galleries covering the ancient civilisations of Egypt, Rome and Greece.
There is also an excellent art collection, highlights of which include pieces by Gainsborough, Constable, Degas, Picasso and Renoir.
And separate galleries cover other areas such as furniture and furnishings, ceramics, armoury and rare coins.
As well as the permanent collection, the Fitzwilliam Museum houses several temporary exhibitions each year.
The museum is open daily except Mondays, but opening hours vary according to day so do check in advance. Admission is free, but a donation is requested.
