England Made Me
All about England
Cheltenham’s Art Gallery and Museum, located on Clarence Street, is an excellent example of a local history museum.
As you would expect the museum contains, among other things, sections on archaeology, art, crafts and furniture and furnishings.
But there are also exhibitions specifically dedicated to local man Edward Wilson, who died with Captain Scott on his expedition to the Antarctic; and William Morris, leader of the Arts and Crafts Movement.
And all of the exhibitions are laid out imaginatively, and are carefully designed to appeal to young and old alike.
The Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum is open daily except Sundays from 10am to 5.15pm. Admission is free.
Also worth visiting are the Gustav Holst Birthplace Museum and the Costume Museum at Pittville Pump Room.
