Charles Dickens lived at numerous residences all over London, but this is the only one still surviving. He only lived at this address between 1837 and1839, but this was a creative few years. He wrote some of his most famous books at this address, including Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickelby.

Today the house acts as a museum to this favourite British writer. You can see his desk and chair, first editions of some of his books and portraits of the author and his family. The drawing room in particular is set out pretty much as it would have been when Dickens lived here, which gives you a pretty good insight into the Victorian way of life.

The museum is open Mondays-Saturdays from 10am-5pm.
