Do you have any favorite Shakespeare plays or quotes? I think Othello or Hamlet are my favorite plays…

Rose: I rather enjoy reading and watching Shakespeare myself. My favorite plays are A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Hamlet. As for favorite lines, I like that scene where everyone is searching for Polonius’ body, and Hamlet says “He is at supper. Not Where he eats but where he is eaten.” I don’t have it in front of me, but I love that scene.

Bob: You know, Shakespeare set the standard for English language literature. His plays are the template from which essentially all English language writers draw their plots - if modified by the environment and ever more speculative fiction - AND, his quotes resound throughout the language. He REALLY took his “pound of flesh” from the language!

Echo: i like Hamlet best, but i enjoyed the Twelvth night, especially when diguised Viola talks to the duke about how men let out feeling while women keep them inside and then she starts talking about herself, and the duke has no clue that she is. i quote viola here:

“she sat like patience on amonument, smiling at grief. was not this love indeed? we men may say more, swear more, but indeed our shows are more than will, for still we prove much in our vows, but little in our love”

(This from a guy who penned…how many plays..?!)

Can I put in a little plug for my favorite Shakespeare festival? Stratford Ontario has an absolutely fantastic festival all summer long, 4 theaters (and not only Shakespeare). I go there almost every year (I have no financial interest in it–really!)
