This house dates from the 17th century, making it one of the oldest houses in Hampstead. It has been a National Trust Property since 1952 when its owner Lady Binning left it to them.

There is a lovely walled garden, lots of 18th century furnishings and a good collection of ceramics. There are also paintings and examples of 18th century tapestry.

But the house is best known for its excellent collection of antique musical instruments. Highlights of the collection include a Harpsichord that is said to have been played by Handel, the oldest surviving English grand piano and an extremely rare lute.

Occasionally music concerts are held in the house, but these tend to be extremely popular and so tickets are very hard to get hold of.

Fenton house is open from Wednesdays to Sundays between March and April, and at weekends for the rest of the year. Opening hours vary so check in advance. National Trust members can get in free.
