England Made Me
All about England
This famous grocery store was founded in 1707, and it is where Scott of the Antarctic stocked up on provisions before setting off on his adventures. Today the atmosphere is old fashioned and exclusive, the staff still wear formal dress and the tearooms serve afternoon tea the traditional way.
The shop is still most well known for its groceries and provisions. All kinds of weird, wonderful and exotic foods can be bought here, and the store is especially famous for its ready-prepared food hampers. However, it is also incredibly expensive so you will probably have to settle for a small, but wonderfully packaged, collection of teas, jams or biscuits.
You can also buy designer clothes here, although it tends to be the more classic labels that are available rather than trendy new labels. And the store also sells furniture.
Whether you are entering the store, or just passing by, make sure that you look out for the clock that was added in 1964. It features models of the founders Mr Fortnum and Mr Mason, which bow to each other as the clock strikes the hour. Opening hours are Monday-Saturday, 9.30am-6.00pm.
