England Made Me

All about England

The world famous father of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud lived in this house for the last 18 months of his life, from 1938-1939.

Freud had fled to England to escape persecution by the Nazis, and so he decorated his house to look like his original home in Vienna. There are photographs of his old home so you can see how closely he reproduced it.

You can also see all manner of Freud’s personal momentos, his books and even his original therapy couch.

Freud’s house is open in the afternoon from Wednesdays to Sunday. There is a bookshop available selling all sorts of publications on the subject of psychiatry.
