England Made Me
All about England
For many years Glasgow had a reputation of poverty, squalor and violence, and so tourists would inevitably choose to visit Glasgow’s more in vogue neighbour - Edinburgh.
But today things couldn’t be further from the truth. In recent years Glasgow has undergone an astonishing renaissance, and it is now one of the most fashionable cities in the UK.
It has also achieved a list of accolades that any city in the UK would be envious of - in 1990 it was the European City of Culture and in 1999 it was voted the City of Architecture.
Nevertheless, Glasgow has not turned its back on its industrial roots, and so it still retains a raw edge and energy so often lacking in other “nicer” cities.
So today a visit to Glasgow is a must for any tourist - a combination of sophisticated party town and down-to-earth industrial city it really is one of the most interesting places in the UK.
