This area of London is situated to the north-west of central London, just to the north of Hampstead. The name is derived from the Godyere family who once lived in the area, and the rural grounds of their manor.

In the 18th century the area was divided into various farmsteads and it remained predominantly agricultural right up until the early 20th century.

It was only in 1905 that the industrial expansion of London (that had been taking place for the previous 50 or so years in other districts) first reached Golders Green. This was when the Northern Line railway reached the area and rapid expansion in Golders Green soon followed.

Today the area is almost totally built up, with residential housing pretty much everywhere with just the Golders Hill Park to break up the expanse of houses.

The main tourist attraction in the district is the Anna Pavlova Memorial Museum located in the house where the famous ballet dancer once lived.
