This museum, located just south of St James’s Park, is dedicated to the history of the five Guards regiments of the British Army. It dates back to the founding of the regiments and to the reign of Charles II (1660-85).

The museum is predominantly about the everyday life of the soldiers and features uniforms, weapons and various everyday objects. There are also lots of paintings of both military events and historical military figures.

Perhaps the most interesting exhibit, however, is the oldest British medal, which was awarded by Oliver Cromwell to his army in 1651 after the Battle of Dunbar.

Also on the premises is a shop totally dedicated to toy soldiers, which is often regarded as being the most important shop of its kind in the whole of London.

The museum is open daily from 10am-4pm, admission costs around �or adults. Opposite is the Guards Chapel.
