England Made Me

All about England

This district of west London lies to the south west of Shepherd’s Bush, to the west of The City.

For many years the area was predominantly rural, but today it is dominated by traffic. In fact, the area contains some of the busiest traffic junctions in the whole of London.

Nevertheless, it’s not all bad news. For example there is a pleasant riverside walk that can take you all the way to Chiswick, often regarded as the best aspect of an otherwise uninspiring district.

The main landmark in Hammersmith is the Olympia Exhibition Centre on Hammersmith Road, which hosts all kinds of trade shows and big exhibitions. But more of a tourist attraction is the Riverside Studios arts centre on Crisp Road.

Other than that there is the famous rock venue the Hammersmith Odeon, which has now been renamed the Labatt’s Apollo. Located on Queen Caroline Street, it is still one of London’s main music venues, playing host to mainly mainstream bands.
