England Made Me

All about England

Harley Street runs through the heart of Marylebonedistrict, from Marylebone Road in the north to Wigmore Street in the south. It is named after Edward Harley, the 2nd Earl of Oxford, who owned the land in the 18th century.

At first it was a residential street similar to numerous other residential streets in the district, but then the doctors moved in.

Today Harley Street is famous the world over for its numerous doctors, dentists and plastic surgeons - and their extortionate bills. Nearby on Wimpole Street is a Dental Museum run by the British Dental Association.
