England Made Me

All about England

Harrods doesn’t have its reputation as the place to shop for nothing - it is everything you expect it to be: extravagant, sumptuous, dazzling and expensive.

Its motto “Omnia, Omnibus, Ubique” means “Everything, for everyone, everywhere”, and it is pretty fair to say that if Harrods don’t sell it, then you can’t get it anywhere!

As with all the best success stories the store had a humble beginning, for the shop began life in 1849 as a family run grocery store with only two staff. There are now over 230 departments to choose from, 18 restaurants and bars, and a staff of thousands.

A look around is a must for all visitors to London - even if you are not buying anything - for seeing is believing. If you don’t have much time then make the food hall your first port of call for where else will you find live music accompanying you as you shop for your groceries!

The downside, however, is that it is pretty much always crowded and the security staff are ever watchful which some people can find intimidating.
