England Made Me
All about England
Frederick Horniman, a 19th century tea merchant who had a passion for collecting objects from around the world, founded this eccentric museum at the end of the 19th century.
The basis of the museum’s collection is ethnography and the unusual collection includes all manner of interesting and bizarre artefacts. For example there is a stuffed Walrus, a mummified kitten and the preserved foot of an orang-utan!
Less bizarre is an extensive collection of antique musical instruments and an aquarium demonstrating river life.
The museum is open daily from 10.30am to 5.30pm Mondays to Saturdays and from 2pm to 5.30pm Sundays. Admission is free.
