First , check what study abroad programs your school has.

Then you should see what schools will allow you to study there and transfer back the class credits you earn. It usually does depend on what you are studying. Some courses of study transfer over easier such as social sciences and humanities. The physical and life sciences may cause a problem.

I am a microbiology major at UCLA and the pre-reqs are very specific to UCLA only. I met a guy from Australia who was studying here for an entire year doing engineering though.
