Remember, Remember the 5th of November
Gunpowder,Treason and Plot
I see no reason the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes,Guy Fawkes ’twas his intent
to blow up the King and the Parlement.
Three score barrels of powder below,
Poor old England to overthrow:
By God’s provedence he was catch’d
With a dark lantern and burning match.

Then we’ll say ol’Pope is dead.

Here in England we are always boasting
About our tolerance, wit, and grace,
Yet every November we re-enact the roasting
Of a man who was a member of a persecuted faith!

Yes, Guy Fawkes was a man of the Pope
And we were proper and right
He and his followers hadn’t a hope
That the gunpowder would be set alight

So when you light the burning brand
And cheer the death of a traitor and lout
Remember your neighbors might be Catholic and
Be glad you never asked them out.
