1.Why did Queen Elizabeth II become queen instead of her mother when her father died?

Queen Elizabeth became Queen when her father died because she was her father King George VI’s heir. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was his wife and Queen Consort, not Queen Regnant.

2.Is Phillip known as the King of England and does he have any power?

Phillip is known as a Prince of England and Duke of Edinburgh. He is the consort to the Queen and has no ‘power’ so to speak. I am sure that he lends his ear to Her Majesty when she needs it and he also took a more involved role in parenting their children, as she did not (unfortunately) have much time for that. He was originally a Prince of Greece and had no last name, however he renounced his place for the Greek throne in order to marry Elizabeth II.

3.If Elizabeth were to die who would become king; would Phillip take over or Prince Charles.

As of this point, when Elizabeth perishes, Charles will become King, unless he abdicates in favor of William, which is doubtful.

4.If for example Prince Charles had an older sister…who would take the throne if Queen Elizabeth died.

In the rules of Succession, the Male heirs come before the Female Heirs. Say, Princess Anne had been borne before Prince Charles, it would have made no difference. It would pass to Prince Charles, the eldest male heir to the throne. Then to his issue, William and Harry, and any female issue he would have had, then to Prince Andrew and his issue, which are only girls, and so forth. The only reason Queen Elizabeth became Queen was because she had no brothers to become King before her. She only had one sister, named Princess Margaret.
