The Queen Square, situated up the hill from Bath Abbey, was built between 1729 and 1739, and was essentially the first piece of Georgian architecture to be built in Bath.

The Square was designed by the famous Bath architect John Wood the Elder, and its Palladian style set the tone for many subsequent developments in the city.

There is an obelisk in the centre of the square, which was placed there by Beau Nash in recognition of a gift he received from the then Prince of Wales, Prince Frederick.

From Queen Square you can easily reach many of the other architectural gems of Georgian Bath, including The Circus and the famous Royal Crescent.
