Rydal Mount is one of the Lake district’s most famous attractions, for it was the former home of one of England’s best loved poets, William Wordsworth.

Wordsworth lived here from 1813 until his death in 1850, and as this was the height of his career many of his most famous poems were composed whilst he lived at Rydal Mount.

Still owned by a descendant of the poet, the house contains all manner of personal memorabilia relating to Wordsworth and his works, and you can even see the poet’s study.

The house is located a mile and a half to the north of the village of Ambleside, and it is situated in the midst of some glorious scenery.

And with over 4 acres of gardens, planted by Wordsworth himself the cottage is stunningly picturesque.

However, the crowds that descend on Rydal Mount in the summer months do somewhat mar the effects so do try to visit out of season if possible.
