According to the history, the Valentine’s Day origins at the early fifteen century. A young man from France was captived by English army in the Agincourt battle, during the years in jail, he wrote thousands of poems to his wife, about 60 of them still exists today. The custom of taking flowers as present of Valentine’s Day begins at around two hundred years later. Henry IV, the king of France, hosted a great party for his daughter on February 14, at which all the ladies received a bunch of flowers as present form the valentine she chose.
In Ancient Rome, the Valentine’s Day was a holiday to honor Jona, the Goddness of women and marrige. The nest day, February 15th, was the Feast of Lupercalia. Boys and girls are segregated strictly at that time. However, on the eve of the Feast of Lupercalia, boys could carve the name of the girl he loved on a vase, then he may get a chance to dance with that girl on the Festival. If the girl also liked the boy, they may fall in love and get married. So February 14th was named as Valentine’s Day since then.
