It depends on the course and what you want to study. In order to becomea doctor, it takes five or six years. You can do a three year degree course with a year abroad or with a work placement for a year. You need to decide what you want to study first and then decide where you want to study. You are quite right in that most British degree courses are for three years. MSC is a further year but you need BSC first.. You can go on to PHD which is another three years.
